The usage of UCF in tournaments has been controversial. Since then, UCF has been modified several times for minor changes and bugfixes, and is currently in V0.73 beta. Universal Controller Fix was first released to the public by Dan Salvato on August 8th, 2017, accompanied by a YouTube video detailing its usage and changes. The lower threshold makes it so that spot dodging will not interfere as easily with shield dropping, and can be consistently performed on any controller.
If the control stick is held against the rim, and the player's shield is angled such that a shield roll is impossible, the spot dodge threshold is decreased from -0.7 to -0.8. When playing the Ice Climbers, Nana's behavior is modified to move exactly as she would in vanilla Melee, preventing any unexpected occurrences in the modded version. The dashback window is increased from one to two frames. Universal Controller Fix alters the original Melee with two major changes: Under UCF, a player with any controller can perform techniques to the same level of consistency as with high-quality controller. UCF is intended to address the differences in quality between controllers, as a player with a better controller can perform certain advanced techniques more reliably than a player with a worse controller. For 'CPU Smart DI', random DI angles have been improved: 60% full DI, 20% half DI, 20% no DI. Auto-save replay will now roll over replay ID letter if match 9 is reached. L-Cancel Training Wheels may now be combined with L-Cancel Flash Unsuccessful setting to indicate failed L-cancels instead of successful ones. Hold Start to Pause frame window increased from 15 frames to 30 frames. 
The 'X/Y loads random stage presets' feature has been removed - it is no longer necessary because Tournament Mode automatically sets the stage list between matches. Added Universal Controller Fix (UCF) toggle in Tournament Settings. This includes the new UCF v0.73 text indicator at the top of the character select screen. (rev4) Fixed a bug introduced in rev3 where replays would desync if UCF is enabled.
